I am on a left most lane with a trafic sign "Left Turn Only", but no "No U turn sign" posted in that lane. I made a u turn and got a ticket. I want to contest it. Please recommend if I have a case. Thanks

  1. Go to http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/ and type in the section of the vehicle code that is listed on the ticket.  Read it and decide if you have a case or not.

  2. They could probably get you because it says left turn ONLY. I dunno you might have a case. They say 80% of the time the cop doesn't show up so you win by default.

  3. No the word ONLY is the key word to your question,  In cal. it is only legal to make a U turn 500 feet from a intersection without crossing over a double yellow line or barrier of paint or concrete.  U turns at posted signs are OK, as the cross traffic is stopped by the light so you don't get hit in the side of the passenger door.

  4. Except at a protected left turn.  If you have the green left arrow, you can make a U-turn from the far left lane.

  5. Turn your messaging to on if you cannot verify this today.  Let us consider why it is that we place these signs here if you wish to better understand their meaning.  We are not in the regular practice of making laws that make no sense.

    From the left turn only lane, take notice of the cross traffic traveling from left to right, and then of the lane closest towards you, the right turn lane for cross traffic to your left.  Now look right, do they just have circle lights or is there a green arrow that can be shown even when the traffic flowing across has a red circle?

    If during their red circle the green arrow lights at the same time as your green arrow then this is because they have a protected right turn since you can only make left turns.  I would not contest this ticket, but you may wish to look into getting a better sign in place.

    But if there is no green arrow and they only have a red circle when your green arrow lights, then to make a right on red they must yield to you.  You have the right-of-way and a no U-turn prohibition would be absurd.  I contest all ridiculous tickets, including this one for 22101(d)-VC.

    */End of Line.

  6. Unfortunately, I don't think you have a case this time. Unless posted otherwise U-turns, as a general rule, are illegal.

  7. no u should not the sign said left turn not u turn u would waste ur money a attorney for nothing NO

  8. Should you be on the road?

  9. I think you can make a u-turn anywhere as long as there are no signs posted telling you not to.

  10. nope..u cant fight the law...plus tech u broke the law bc in order to make that u-turn u needed to slightly turn left.....which is not allowed...dont waste ur time @ court....just pay up...

  11. It's usually no U-turns unless the sign says you can.

  12. The general argument is that if the sign does not prohibit it, you can do it. I would highly recommend protesting it. Every left turn lane I see in California specifically  says "no u-turn" if it is prohibited. You must have got a d**k for a cop. These days that is not hard to do.

  13. According to California state law you can make a U turn at the intersection unless there is a No U turn sign posted. Fight it you can win. But be prepared to pay the FULL amount of the ticket before you are allowed to go to trial. If you win you will get the money mailed back to you in two to three months. If you lose they keep it and it is up to the judge if they allow you to go to traffic school which would mean a point on your license because an illegal U turn is moving violation.

  14. No, you may not make a U turn on a Left Turn Only.  You do not have a case.
