In california if you buy a registered gun from the owner can you get it registered in your name and if so how?

i was going to buy a 45 from a friend its registered to him how tuff is it going to be to get it in my name ? it in california and

  1. California's gun laws are more lengthy than the LA phone book. I recommend moving ASAP.

You can purchase it but you have to do it through a gun shop.  They will hold the Firearm for the required 10 day waiting period and run a back ground check, they will also take the gun out of his name and put it in yours.  You will be required to provide the gun shop with the sellers drivers license, your drivers license or CA ID card as well as an HSC card, this is a certificate that is required to legally take possession of any handgun in CA, and there will be a fee to the state of $25 for the card and a required 30 question multiple choice test, it is good for 5 years.  Legally any place that sells firearms should administer this test and is required to do the transfer for no MORE than $35.  Both parties must also be present for the transfer.  Welcome to becoming a California Gun Owner!
