In cheerleading what is the "natural" progression of tumbling skills?

I recently got a backhandspring and assume that tucks are next. My roundoff rebound only has my feet a foot off the floor at the most. I have a cartwheel, forward roll, round-offs- all types... power hurdle etc. I am extremely close to an aerial. I also have a dive roll. What can I do so that my tucks come easily and quickly? Any tips for tumbling in general would be a great help.

  1. get your round off backhandspring,

    then try a backhandspring-back tuck


  2. I agree with the comment before on the roundoff backtuck and then I don't. It's easier to get the backtuck from the roundoff because you don't loose power from the Backhandspring, but then if you do get this, make sure you can revert back to the standard way. My all star gym wouldn't let us do the roundoff backtucks.

  3. tucks usually come quicker then a backhand spring. but in cheer we normally dont do ariels

  4. my sister and i started our tumbling skills when we were 4 years old and on a pee-wee cheer elite squad. we're currently working on our fulls and back handspring layouts hopefully you know that a handstand is the beginning base for all tumbling. if not, there's something new for you. in most cheerleading gyms, you're going to learn a back tuck next. i cant remember how our coach told us to learn it, but once he told us it clicked and we got it. tumbling skills in general, practice is key...if you have a trampoline you should practice what you've learned on it. try practicing handstand snap downs (we're assuming you know what that is)...it helps build a strong foundation for tumbling as well.
