Question:

In chess, can the Queen move like a Knight?

We've always played that she could do any move that another piece does, but recently we've learned from other sources that she can only mimic the moves of a Rook or Bishop. So can anyone with real experience in this game tell me once and for all if this is true, or if this is an "optional" rule?

  1. I don't know a lot about chess, but I've never heard it played that way.  I believe the queen can move as many spaces as she wants in any direction until she comes to another piece.  If that piece is an opponent piece, she can knock it out.  Going in an L-Shape like the knight would be going in two directions, thus breaking the rule.

  2. The Queen can't move like a knight it can only go like a rook and a bishop thats why they say the knight is special.

  3. No, because a knight moves like in a "L" shape. But a Queen can move in any direction as much steps as u want, it can't go through other pieces though. Well, for me the Queen is the syrongest piece in the game.

  4. nope, like a king but unlimited in the number of spaces in the direction it is moving (until the edge of the board of course) and it cannot make turns or jump friendly pieces

  5. actually, a queen can move more moves than a king.

  6. No.  Here are the official United States Chess Federation rules:

  7. no

  8. nope

  9. A queen can move like a Bishop, and like a Castle. Its basically the two combined, and she can move any amount of spaces just as they can as well. She cannot move as a Knight in ONE turn.
