What affect does the first and last sentence create when put together? And how do they work together?

  1. Don't they kind of give you a cold feeling of being alone?  The first sentence makes you picture these big wheat plains, and the last makes you picture the same thing, with the big sky and a gentle wind.  I don't know about you, but the "whisper of wind voices" part gives me the chills!

    The first and last sentences work together, almost like a cycle: Capote describes a scene in the first sentence, tells a story, then brings you back to that scene at the end.  There's some sort of conclusiveness there, as if nothing has changed, yet you've read this amazing, chilling story.  Sorry, I don't know how to explain this very well but I hope you get the idea!
