I want to have a room with a friend of mine. I was told that you can't choose your roommates. But I want to know if that's true and if there's a way around it. Detailed answers please. :)

  1. You can both put in that you would both like to dorm with one another. It is allowed but it depends on the college but I definitely know that it is doable.

It is allowed at Easten Michigan, U of M and Grand Valley. For all of them it is best if you both send in your applications at the same time.

  2. If you do not have someone that you have requested to be your dorm mate and who will be attending the school then the school picks for you.

  3. It will depend on your university.  At my school (Ohio State) we were allowed to write in people we wanted to room with.  In my case I wrote in two friends and they wrote me in on theirs.  We all three got in the room together but the 4th guy was randomly choosen.  It will depend on the school and how willing they are to accomodate you.
