  1. 1.Density:It has to do with the amount of chemicals dissolved in the water due to which its density increases or decreases.Eg.Chlorine if used excessively can make the waters density increase by a minute quantity making you slower by just a second or two,but as you know in competition swimming seconds vital!

    2.Temperature:Water expands on heating(lower density)and contracts on cooling(Higher density).

  2. Water:

    Temperature

    Density

    Pool:

    Size

    Depth

    Width

    Structure

    Blocks (angle)

    Location

    + More

What mainly makes a pool "fast" is the depth, width, temperature, and the structure of the blocks. But all these make a pool "fast" in its own little way. Hope this helps.

  3. The main factor in swim times as related to pools is turbulence.  The people above who talk about water density are mistaken; that factor is so small that it is effectively irrelevant.

What does make a difference is turbulence and wave action.  This can cause severe drag on swimmers lowering times considerably.  The main ways that turbulence is reduced is through wave-reduction lane lines, properly designed pool sides and gutters, and the pool depth.  Deeper pools are usually faster than shallower ones, everything else being equal.

  4. you can feel the differnence of the water in pools.

    some feel "thicker" than others.

it also has to do with the way the water goes into the "gutter" which will cause less waves, which makes it feel "thinner".

lol complicated but its how we think.

  5. It is to do with the quality of the water etc

  6. Wide gutters cut out wave action and will decrease times!  True!  Also,  pools not also used for diving are faster due to the even depth.

  7. many swimmers feel u can get thick or thin water, when the water is the perfect density for you personally that makes a pool fast. But there is really nothing that makes a pool fast, just some pools are fast some pools are slow!

  8. obviously density if the water is more heavy for example sea water is very heavy because it has salt in it which makes the water heavier and difficult to swim in it so pool water must not have too much density that is water should be pure then it can make the pool fast in the sense we can swim more faster in that pool because you may have observed if you row a boat you must exert a lot of pressure to row your boat front thats because the water has large density DENSITY is the thing which can make a pool faster or slow

  9. Fast pools have profiles that minimize turbulence.
