In consumer societies, why are flight attendants more polite and friendly than airport cleaning women?

I hope you don't take it as an insult. If you think only the industrialized nations are consumer societies, you are wrong. The problem has spread to many industrializing ones.

Because flight attendants are hired for their manners and friendliness, trained to be polite and friendly, and paid to be polite and friendly.

Airport cleaning women are paid to clean the airport.

because the flight attendants job is to make you feel secure and happy during your flight. A mean one would make the airlines lose money because they would leave the customer with a bad impression of the airline.

However the cleaning ladies are just there to clean, their job doesn't require putting on a fake smile. All they must do is clean. They also come  to realize how dirty society is with all of its litter bugs, in process making their days of work less enjoyable. People with less enjoyable work days have crankier attitudes.
