Alan McGilvray. The doyen of radio commentators.  A 1st class cricketer himself who developed into the finest commentator.  Given that he did not have the advantage of having his audience see the action he had to describe it.  To the description he added his own inimitable opinion.

i think ian chappel is. He really makes the match a lot more exciting. Hes got great enthusiasm. Especially when sachin or lara played.

but talking of younger ones  harsha bhogale is the best of 'em.superb......

My fav is Harsha Bhogle. He is just superb! Harsha is Indian cricket's first non-player celebrity and also appears in several TV and print commercials. One can never get bored while his commentary is on.....

John Arlott was the best commentator ever. The man was a poet. I could listen to his voice commentating on cricket forever.

Who's the best now? Michael Atherton. He's copied Richie Benaud 'the doyen of the press box', and knows to inform the viewer, but also knows when to keep quiet.
