In cricket do you run with the bat?

I have just recently started watching cricket matches and don’t know much about the sports of cricket can you tell me is it necessary to run in between the wickets with a bat in hand.

Yes you would because if you dropped it you would have to go back up the pitch to get the bat and you can use it to get into the crease quicker.
