  1. Be sure to practice you abbreviations and keep material on them handy.

    SEVEN CROCHET BASICS

    1. Chain = ch

    2. Slip stitch = sl st or ss

    3. Single crochet = sc

    4. Half double crochet = hdc

    5. Double crochet  = dc

    5. Triple or treble = tr

    7. Double triple or treble = dtr

This is not all abbreviations as yarn over = yo, or together = tog, or skip = sk and space = sp, spaces = sps and stitch = st or stitches = sts.

  2. The translation would be to "slip stitch in the chain seven space".  It's really a good idea to learn how to read a pattern before attempting a project. The most difficulty I have had in the past with crocheting was interpreting patterns, not with the stitches. These links can be very helpful in order for you to master some basic stitches as well as to learn the terminology.  Stay with it, it's a wonderful and rewarding skill !

  3. ss means slip stitch

ch 7 sp means that on the previous row you have a space made up of 7 chains.

so - work a slip stitch in the 7 chain space of the previous row.
