  1. i didnt have to, there are two types of races though

usually the better runners and put in the team race and then the other runners are put in the open race, so no matter what you are on the team! Definately Join! it's really fun

  2. In cross country pretty much every one runs. The first seven finishers from your team count in scoring. 1st through 5 count for the score with their finish place. (EXAMPLE: you finish 3rd you get three points, you finish tenth you get 10 points. The team with the lowest 5 person tally wins the meet. meanwhile the sixth and seventh runner can help with scoring by trying to finish ahead of the other teams top five. Hence, those opponents have a higher finishing number. I've been on teams where we had 30 runners from our team running. There are two levels the Varsity and Junior Varsity squads. A Varsity would be the top 7 and would be the team that runs in the big invitationals. The JV would be all others. Some teams who are really good, and have enough school money for entries, could have two Varsity teams at events.

  3. Usually, cross country coaches let everyone on the team because not many people are willing to work hard and not many people think running will be fun.  Teams usually have a varsity 7 (how many people score in a race + 2 in the event of a tie or a disqualification) and a JV team.  There are usually either open races or JV races for the JV team to run in.
