In definitive, is thieu lam the vietnamese part of shaolin?

"Thieu lam" is a direct translation of "shaolin". There would have been some shaolin kungfu that has been pass on to Vietnam, but it is most likely to be a water downed version or it has been modified. Also, shaolin kungfu has so many different styles. It is just too general.

Some Vietnamese masters may know one or two particular styles or a hybrid of styles, but in order to make it sound more impressive, they call it "vo thieu lam" , because everyone know the shaolin monks. and so anything associate with that name must be good.

I am not trying to discredit the Vietnamese masters, I am sure there are many great masters in Vietnam. Any countries that involves with warfare, would l have developed their own martial arts.

Just like in china, there are a few great masters and there are many masters who are only good at performing. True masters were the ones who fight in the platform and put their money where their mouths are. Risking their lives to prove they are the best, with no rules, no limitations. That is the only way for martial arts to be at its peak, only the strong survive. Any art that has been proven  to be ineffective would have eventually disappear. Only really combat and real fight can determine the deadly effectiveness of the art. Unfortunately, there is a down side to this, a lot of good martial artists died or lose their arms or legs.
