In-depth analysis of the Main Draw WTA Tournament Doha
The coming up event on the WTA Tour is the Season ending Tournament in Doha, which is set to start from Tuesday. The Number one Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark will headline the competition along with Vera Zvonareva, Kim Clijsters, Elena Dementieva, Victoria
Azarenka, Samantha Stosur, Jelena Jankovic and Francesca Schiavone.
The eight women field has been divided in two groups namely White and Maroon on their way to triumph in at least two clashes and reach the final four battle. The winner of the tournament in the end will be given prize money of $1,550,000 in Doha.
With William sisters out of action for the rest of the year, it will definitely be interesting to notice the major less top ranked Caroline. Securing her way to the world number one in the WTA rankings after winning the quarter final round in Tokyo, Caroline
will surely look to add some valuable ranking points to her total for the following year.
However, in the presence of Kim Clijsters and Schiavone who have won the United States Open and French Open respectively this season, it won’t be an easy ride for the Dane to even reach the title battle in Doha.
Winning her third United States Open crown back in September, the Belgian tennis ace, Kim Clijsters was out of action due to her foot injury. Leaving behind her two and a half years old daughter Jada and coming all the way to Doha, the Belgian has clearly
sent out the message that she is here to win the season ending tournament and will try his level best to achieve her target.
The French Open winner Francesca Schiavone, on the other hand, who is coming off her quarter final appearance at the year’s final major, the United States Open in New York is also another strong contender in Doha beyond any measure of speculations. The Italian
will definitely dazzle the spectators with the help of her volley and serve, however, her prospects of winning the title are not evident at the moment.
Vera’s two Grand Slam final appearances in 2010 have forced critics to consider her as one of the competitors of Caroline during the marquee competition. The 26-year-old Russian must be looking to end the year on a strong note after impressive performances
in the major events earlier this year.
Victoria, who made it into the elite eight women field after her Moscow performance, is also included among the contenders in the Doha event. Jelena Jankovic and Elena Dementieva, on the other hand, will need to play some flawless tennis and stay hundred
percent fit and healthy when they enter the court this week.
Hence, considering the main draw, there won’t be any great surprises to come as predicted by the experts. The quality players have already risen to the top level on the tour earlier in 2010 and therefore what is now expected is a quality finish from the
top two seeds in Doha.
The Maroon Group features Stosur, Caroline, Schiavone and Dementieva. The world number one Caroline will begin her tournament’s campaign against Schiavone. She is trailing at 2-1 in lifetime head-to-head encounter versus the French Open winner.
The White Group, on the other hand, will highlight Clijsters, Zvonareva, Azarenka and Jankovic. The second seed Vera of Russia will definitely have to play some great tennis to reach the later rounds in Doha. Clijsters will surely attempt to continue her
excellent form that helped the Belgian to successfully defend the U.S Open title last month in New York.
