In distillation, would increasing the heating rate affect the boiling point? Why?

  1. No changing the heating rate has no effect on boiling point. The boiling point is a function of pressure only. This is because at the boiling point, the vapor pressure of the boiling liquid equals the atmospheric pressure. If it is desired to lower the boiling point, apply a vacuum to the distillation apparatus.
