  1. because  when meiosis occurs in a chick all of the cell's organell's goes into one egg the other 3 cells that are produced die within a matter of hours


  2. That is true, but you can also think of it as a survival technique that has evolved over time.  Just like many sperm are produced to get to only one egg, many pollen grains are produced to get to one egg.  It increases the chances of actually getting fertilization.
