In final fantasy 12, is it a bad thing to have no rangers, or gunners?

all my people that i use are melee'rs. im at the rainy stage on the giza plains, and im alot weaker then all the monsters.

I don't have any of my characters using guns or bows, I usally have them using swords or magic.

It's not a bad thing.  Although I keep a supply of bows and guns to switch out when I come across a flying creature or something I really don't want to get too close to.  I try to keep all the characters around the same level and with the same licenses so that I can be sure they can all use the same weapons, armors, etc.  A couple of things to keep in mind:  Ranged weapons like the bow and crossbow can be affected by weather conditions--rain can lower the accuracy and chance of hitting the enemy.  Guns, although weak in Attack power, never miss.

If you're a lot weaker than the enemies you are facing, the Nihopaloa is a great accessory to have.  If you've done enough Mark hunts it will be available from the Clan Provisioner.  Of course, it cost 30,000 gil so you may have to work on getting enough money for it!  

Just equip it to whichever party member you like and throw a Phoenix Down on the enemy.  Voila! Instant kill.  Two things to remember: 1) This doesn't work on undeads, some slimes, and some creatures that teleport. 2) Be sure the character with the Niho does not have any gambits set up to use items on self or ally.  You can wipe out your own party in nothing flat, otherwise!  Change their gambits to use Magics instead of items for healing.

I never really used gunners, but I would have at least one ranger, so they can hit the flying beast or be a few distance away from the monster instead of up in its face. I always left Fran as the ranger she seemed to be the best.
