  1. Basically as you take the course, your progress will be tested in stage checks.

Say you have 3 stages for the private pilots license course.

The first stage will consist of a certain syllabus, and you will be tested both orally and in-fligt on those things in a "stage 1 check" at the end of those stage.

Then you progress through the 3 stages, and the last check will be the "end of course" which is basically the test where you get your license (if you pass).

    Edit: No problem :)

I've been with, and still am, with Phoenix East Aviation in Daytona Beach, Florida =).

Working on my instructor licenses, it's a part 141 school so I've done quite a lot of stage checks so far ;p

  2. Photle can't answer it until you have selected the best answer and then he will comment it.  Only then he can answer you.

  3. Typically found in Part 141 schools, they are supposed to occur at "logical" break points; i.e pre-solo, pre-cross country, pre-PPL check ride.  There may be others depending on the the FAA approved syllabus.  They are also called Phase Checks.

  4. Stage Checks are associated with Part 141 flight schools, as opposed to Part 91 independent flight instruction. The benefit of Part 141 schools is that you have stage checks. Typically not your regular flight instructor will check your knowledge and skills at major milestones within the rating you are studying for. Sort of like a quiz, just to make sure you are where you are suppose to be in the learning process. So no big stress with stage checks. Very valuable for measuring your progress in the program.
