  1. As far as I know you cannot join pokergob.com from time to time they have freerolls with full tilt, doylesroom, etc. and then you can turn that into cash.

  2. some websites buy play money to resell for real money.

  3. Chris Ferguson did not turn play money into real money.  What he did was keep entering free roll tournaments until he won some real money.  He then used the real money to enter other low stakes tournaments.  Over time (and it took a while) he gradually began to build a bank roll.  But he had to patiently play very low stakes games for a long time.

So to start look for free roll tournaments, and see if you can win one.  You will win a small amount of cash or a buy in to a real cash tournament.

  4. As ZCT said, Ferguson did not start with play money chips.  He started with NO chips, and it took him 9 months to build that to $100.  I'm trying to do the same thing at PokerStars, and I'm up to $25.  I haven't played on FT's play money site for years, but I remember there used to be tournaments that offered a real money payout for an astronomical play chip buy in.  Like a million playchip entry fee (back when you started with 1000) and the top ten finishers won a couple of bucks.  This narrows down the field somewhat, making you more likely to finish ITM.  I don't know if they still do this.  Otherwise you'll just have to enter one of their daily freerolls, with thousands of other players, and hope to finish in the top 1% to earn that dollar.  Once you have it you've got a chip, and FT will provide the chair.  Good luck.
