In general, Why we should not connect to earth line instead of neutral? If it is connected what is happened?

In our colony we have a very low voltage of about 170V sometimes to 150V. I heard that in this case if we measure voltage between neutral & earth it will be around 50V. So, Why we cannot connect one end of equipment to phase and another end to Earth instead of Neutral? Does it disturbs the normal power transmission in our colony ? Whether earth line will carry the current back to the transformer? In connecting to earth we has to deposit the huge amount of copper in earth?

  1. What on this earth made you to think of such a thing which is dangerous? Don't play with electricity. Earth line is supposed to transfer shocks if any & you want it to connect it instead of neutral - never.

    pkn

  2. Never use the earth cable as a return.  It can trip safety circuit breakers.  If everyone uses earth as a return, it would become live.  If there is a voltage difference between neutral and earth, you have a split phase supply.  That's safer than a single phase supply - provided no-one connects it to earth,

  3. you will get the potenial difference not current

also you need AC NOT DC

  4. Are you a licensed electrician because If you are not please don't mess around with electricity...Whats the ampheres or wattage you are seeking?

  5. Earth (Ground) line is not part of electric supply system. It is a safety feature that in case any metal cover of equipment/ appliance gets a voltage, it can be safely grounded by the least resitance path (that is why this pin and the connecting wire is thicker). By connecting to earth, you are not providing the return path to your supply, making it go through earth. It might prove to be dangerous.
