In general, are Australians friendler than British people are?

I'm American and have noticed that British people tend to be more abrupt, less friendly, and quite rude. Australians seem nicer, is this true?

Aussies are all good humored b******s you can go to the pub and crack jokes at them and they give it straight back rather than taking offense. Kiwis are friendlier still.

The British are generally fairly polite but not very friendly to strangers. Australians tend to be somewhat irreverent, perhaps not quite so polite, but are very friendly to everyone.

Of course, these are incredibly general observations and there are many exceptions in both countries.

I'm Canadian, and in all honesty, I find Americans to be abrupt, less friendly, quite rude, and overly arrogant. Both the British and Australian peoples have a reputation for being quite courteous, but of course, one should never stereotype.

I'm also American and I live in the UK, I've never found the British in general and the English in particular to be anything other than polite and decent to me.

I don't think Australians are rude, I'm simply commenting that your perception of the British is not what I've experienced.

I suspect most nationalities produce rude people....the US amongst them.
