I have a 1995 Ford Ranger with 215,000 miles and I always keep up with oil changes, belts, plugs and plug wires, etc. I've replaced a few small parts such as the water pump, EGR valve and heater control valve, but I think that's to be expected on any vehicle with this mileage.

My question is, how long will a vehicle last if you don't dog it or run it into the ground? Is it possible to get more than 300,000 miles with the original engine and tranny?

  1. It's possible to do so.  It wasn't all that long ago that a man had just logged over 1 million miles on his chevy pick up. I think you can google million mile cars and find several stories of people that have done it.

  2. I know that a Chevrolet Cavalier is pretty much indestructible if you take care of it.

  3. Most definitely.. i believe that if a car was drivin by one owner n that owner took good care of it and didnt beat it up.. it could reach anywhere from 300 to 600 thousand miles on the original engine and transmission.. depending on the make of the car. for example a BMW might handle more miles than a Honda and a Honda might handle more miles than a Chevy and so on...  and i say that it only when their drivin by one owner because when cars change hands they get drivin differently and that wears them out.
