In general are people getting what the manufacturers claim ? Ive set up a website www.whatMPG.co.uk?

Ive got an Audi a4 1.9tid www.whatMPG.co.uk says i should be getting 53.3 on the combined cycle, i do a pretty relaxed 110 mile journey each day (non motorway) and im getting 47 MPG , not bad , but i expected better.

  1. it depends how you drive it.

    Lots of acceleration, stop go traffic, driving fast, heavy load, air con on, windows down,  driving in the wrong gear, hills etc will all reduce your MPG.  Smooth driving, correct gear, planning ahead to avoid stop/starts, correct gear, lightening the load etc will increase your MPG.

    Two different driver  can easily get figures up to 20MPG apart, given the same road and vehicle.

    Also, your combined cycle most likely will not be under the exact same conditions as the "factory" combined cycle.

    Often people think 56 is the most efficient speed, but in modern cars often it's not. You can get better economy at 30-40
