In general how long does it take to get a Canadian work visa? What about a student visa?

I'm just wondering how long it generally takes from submitting the initial application and paperwork to being approved.

In my experience, I went to the border between Canada and the USA to get my student permit and it only took about 30 minutes to process before getting the permit on hand. US citizens are allowed to do that. The rest, they'll have to apply by mail and I do not know how long it will take. But there is a clock from CIC showing the processing time for applications.

IN CANADA PROCESSING TIME

Student work permit: 14 days.

Work permit (not student): 48 days

Study permit: 40 days.

OUTSIDE CANADA PROCESSING TIME.

It depends on your location since they're processed in embassies and consulates.

And as for the work permit, I got the priority because I'm a student and fit to the requirements. I only waited three weeks to get my work permit (I was surprised it was fast!!!)
