We live in Central PA and we know to get visa from Italian embassy in Philly. Do we just show up w/ all documents to embassy or do we need an appt? It was so hard to call the hotline and their website is not helpful either. They didn't answer our question too when we emailed the embassy. Thanks.

  1. If you hold an American passport then you don't need a Schengen visa.  You can travel as an American to Italy under the Visa Waiver program (which entitles you to the same rights as a Schengen visa)

You can read more about it here along with the links at the bottom to the official websites http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_waiver

  2. 1. If you're traveling to Italy for less than 90 days and you meet the Visa Waiver requirements, you do not need a visa.

    2. If you do not meet those criteria, then ppointments are always a good idea. Don't just show up.

    3. The Italian embassy is in Washington. There's a consulate in Philadelphia.

  3. Check the Consulate General's website, download the visa application form and show up during opening hours with your passport and filled up form.

You could eventually send an e-mail or call beforehand, just to be on the safe side.
