  1. Well Rome is nearer to Ancona than Milan. By train it takes 3 or 4 hours, it depends on the train . From Milan it could take a bit more, but usually there are very fast trains (Eurostar, Intercity plus). I can't help you with the airports, but they are the best of Italy, together with the Marco Polo of Venice. I don't know what you mean by "the best to take", maybe.. sorry!

Visit www.trenitalia.it the website of our national railway. There is also the english version.

  2. Rome is slightly nearer to Ancona than Milan, but you can check the time tables on the Italian official train timetable

If you decide to come to Milan the best airport is Linate, just about 30 minutes to the train station, second best, if you travel low cost Milano Bergamo, about 45 minutes from Railway station, depending on traffic. Both from Linate and from Bergamo you will find buses that take you directly to Central Station in Milan

    Enjoy! ;.)

  3. Take airplane from london to rome,(ciampino or fiumicino airport is the same)and you go to "stazione termini" a train station. There you can take a train that goes directly to ancona from rome. You need about 3 hours.

  4. If you're travelling from London, why not fly directly to Ancona airport from London Stansted? Ryanair operate daily flights and if you book in advance, you can get a bargain. Ancona airport has direct bus and rail connections to the city centre (if you're checking trenitalia.it, the name of the station is 'Castelferreti' rather than 'Ancona airport'). There are always lots of taxis available.

I have only flown from the UK into Rome Ciampino and Milan Malpensa - the latter is easier to get to the central rail station by public transport. Rome involves a shuttle bus which runs about every 30-40 mins; be warned that this can take up to 40 minutes to arrive during off-peak times, due to a longer routing. Then you have a 20m metro ride to termini rail station - however, each mode is cheap, costing a euro each. I would opt for Milan myself if you want to take that option, even though it is slightly longer.

If you're visiting Le Marche I would appreciate your comments on my website, listed below. Please feel free to visit and click around!

    Buon viaggio,

    Peter

  5. Ancona is nearest to Rome than Milan!
