  1. for most high handicappers, that number is 10-20 yards farther than where the ball stops rolling.

  2. its like a variable in math, the x stands for the distance the ball travels from where it is hit to where it ends up

  3. That would be where the ball eventually stops rolling...

  4. stops rolling

  5. It means carry + roll.

  6. It refers to the distance along a straight line between the initial and final positions of the ball !

  7. I would think it means where it stops rolling.  You can't measure yardage in the air, and the ultimate goal is how far you can drive the ball.  They sometimes talk about airtime, how long the ball is in the air.

  8. In most instances you can assume that they mean how far the ball went after it stops rolling.  You may hear someone say things about "carry".  That is referring to the yardage achieved in the air.  If you listen to caddies at a tournament they will say things like, "You need to hit the ball about 240 yards with at least 200 yards of carry to clear the bunker."  I hope this helps.

  9. for commoners like ourselves that would be how far the ball travels in total distance, in the pros they usually refer to how far a drive carries - meaning before the roll

  10. from where the ball is hit, to the place the ball lands is what they mean

  11. who knows what they mean. most ppl that brag about they're yardages over estimate and usually include roll too. but i'd assume unless they say it carried X yards, they mean with roll.

  12. If they say I "carry" the ball 220 yards - that means how far it travelled in the air before hitting the ground.  Otherwise they are usually refering to the total distance including bounce and roll.
