  1. very little. Maybe 20 %. It is all about swing speed. Some call it explosion. others call it tempo. You have to find yours.

  2. i tell all my friends strenght does not matter iwhen i hit really hard i slice and it actually goes shorter than if i take my time and use a softer swing and its actually more acurate and easeir to aim. my girlfriends 13 year old little sister picked up my 7 iron when i was at the driving range first time she has ever picked up a club and was hitting at leas 75 years i mean which isn't that good but for a first time ever. but to answer your question no strength has hardly any thing to do with it its mostly practice and Patience

  3. Hitting a golf ball for distance is not very dependent upon brute strength.  Good balance, leverage, and timing (hand eye coordination) are the more essential elements to a powerful swing.

  4. Well as a golfer. It's kinda 80 percent technique. Since as you are bigger to sometimes people try and kill the ball but if you just hit the ball nice and don't kill it you probably should hit farther drives then your friends if you are bigger.

  5. For a novice, strength is not as important as technique. A nice fluid swing and hitting the ball with the sweet spot of your clubface will result in a long, straight drive. When you can consistently hit the ball correctly it might be time to try and add distance by swinging harder, but maybe not. It's fun to hit long drives, but accuracy is more important, especially for an amateur golfer.

  6. 95% of distance is technique 5% is keeping your eyes open long enough to see the ball before you hit it. Swing long and easy and work on controlling the ball flight consistently, the distance will come with practice.

  7. I say with today's equipment, technique is mostly what gets the ball really out there. Want proof? Watch the LPGA. Look at the numbers they're achieving. And how they're doing it. Look at Ochoa and her numbers; height? muscles? Heck no. It's technique.

Doesn't mean your muscles won't help. Now imagine how far you could hit it if you had her technique AND your strength. Now that would be a really cool sight to see!

  8. I would have to agree that only about 10 - 20 percent of the distance comes from strength. One thing I have noticed is that most people that are really strong and just starting out in golf, use mostly there arms. Where the golf swing uses almost every muscle in your body. I say this because you use your legs, trunk of the body, arms and all the way down to the small stabilizer muscles.

  9. technique is 85%, mental is 14% and strenght is 1%,  Think about it, some of the women golfers drive the ball 300 yards and they are NOT extremely strong.  Look at their form.  They have PERFECT form.  You want to see the greatest swing?  Annika's swing is so beautiful.

Check out this swing video from one of the Golf Channel's show Big Break.  http://www.golfchannel.com/26003/364/896...   KIm is one of the longest drivers on the show and hits it "like a man"  Look at her form and look at her arms.  Tell me you think she is "strong".  Yet she hits it further than most guys I know.

Also, another not "strong" player from the same show, Dana's swing was one of the best, yet she had an early exit.  http://www.golfchannel.com/26003/364/896...   Asyou can see, again, perfect form, not strengh

  10. About 85% technique and 15% strength.
