  1. This one always confuses people.

For measuring the 2 club lengths for a drop under penalty, the rules of golf allow you to use ANY club in your bag.  This includes long putters.

The rule about using the club you intend to use for the next shot  is something a little different.  That applies to the club you must use to determine your nearest point of relief for a FREE drop (Like getting off a cart path, or out of ground under repair).

  2. No.  The longest club can't be your putter.  So Driver is still the best club to use.

  3. No, you can use your driver, not an extended putter, and then use any club in the bag for your next shot!

  4. you can use the longest club u hav

  5. Quitefiv is correct

  6. for penalty drop, you can use the longest club in your bag to measure the 2 club lenghts. But for free lift, you have to take a practice swing from the nearest point of relief with the club you are going to use to hit the shot, mark the inpact position and measure one club length with the longest club in your bag,

  7. quietfive got both parts of the answer correct. Give him the points!

Under decision 20/1 and 20/2, a player may use any club in his bag to measure distances. Vijay uses his belly putter when he measures distances.

As quitefive says, the thing about the club you will use on your next shot only applies to relief from immovable obstructions or GUR.

You find the nearest point of relief by taking a stance with that club. Then drop within one club length (ANY club!!!!) of that spot.

After you take the drop, you can change your mind about the club you will use. (If the ball rolls into a weird lie, for instance.)
