In home babysitting?

I would like to quit my job to stay home with my 2 young kids, but we still need for me to make some money. I was wondering what do people pay for AT HOME day care? Not a day care facility. I would provide morning and afternoon snacks. I live in NE Ohio. We already have tons of outdoor toys and a fenced in yard...Is there anyone that has experience in this? Any advice you can give me would really be appreciated. thanks!

PS

I looked it up online and it said you only need a license for 7 or more kids. I only want to watch 2-3 at the most.

  1. Panda's answer seems reasonable.  Realize you will have to pay taxes on this income at the end of the year though if you don't want to eventually get an audit....so keep good records.  Also, one thing I would caution:  check your homeowners insurance.  You may not be covered against lawsuits if one of the children were hurt while in your home when using your residence as a business, so you may have to up your coverage...consider this cost when deciding on rates.

  2. What did they say about your homeowner's insurance?  Did they tell you that you have to upgrade that because if anything happens to those children in your home you can wind up losing your home in a law suit.  IF you live in an apartment you'd better check with your landlord first because most do not allow buisnesses to be run out of their apartments and you could wind up being evicted and they won't have to give you even a 30 day notice.  Looking this up on line only gives you a general idea of what you need to know.  You need to actually do some footwork and find out what your town/city/county allow as far as doing daycare, sometimes the laws vary.  And you'd better check out your insurance as well.

  3. I pay $95/week per kid for before and after school care.  When my kids went all day, it was $155/week per child.  When they were babies, I was paying around 200/week.

  4. I went through what you are in most states you will have to have a license because making any kind of income with out a license and not being taxed could be illegal I researched this for watching just family and I was told I could get into trouble by law for bringing in unreported revenue. so I filled for a license you need to be a home owner and then the list of requirements is far to costly for me, such as a fenced in yard, no animals, your homes paint will be tested for lead, locks on all rooms on the outside, cabinets, your intire house will be inspected for dangers such as table corners, carpet nails I could go on . also your spouse and others in your home will have record checks, I did it for 6 months and after food repairs license fees etc I made no extra money. GOOD LUCK ANYWAYS.I forgot the most important thing you will need insurance in case if anyone child or adult got hurt on your property.
