  1. Both are. Sure the horse is the one running, but you try standing up in the stirrups, controlling a 1000lb horse at a full gallop, watching out for the other horses on the track, and planning your next move. The jockey is a trained athelete, just like a racecar driver, or a football player or whatever.

  2. No true answer. The horse is running and moving but the rider is always sweaty and panting at the end. A horse would be very confused with out any direction from the rider.

  3. Both are athletes.

Jockeys are very tough and pound for pound carry more muscle than average. They have to be pretty tough to control a 1000 pound horse at a full blown run.

  4. Both horse and jockey are the athlete, and a jockey is not a midget.  Apparently you have not met any they are wonderful athlete and when you meet them on or off the track they are very friendly and repectful toward you.

  5. Best horse in the world loses if he gets blocked in in the stretch run but the horses are the real athletes you try running 40mph for a mile and a quarter...i really think Curlin is going to win today.....Hard Spun and Dominican for long shots

  6. well, the horse has to train and so does the "midget on top" or jockey, so actually they both are athletes

  7. It's callled teamwork, both athletes working together.  When the fit is right, it's like listening to fine music.

The problem is finding the right jockey for the horse.

Not all jockeys are alike, and not all horses are as well.

  8. I vote for the horse. He does the hard work.

  9. both.  the horse does the work, no doubt.  the horse needs the jockey's direction.  and the jockey has to be an athlete to stay on a horse going those speeds and deal with other horses bumping him from other sides.  and to balance on the horse if it trips or something.

  10. Go call Van Belvor a midget you have your hands full of the athlete

  11. To my mind it's the same question as what wins Grand Prix races, the car, or the driver. Bottom line is the car. A driver can make a good car fractionally better. A jockey can make a good horse fractionally better, but can't make a bad horse good - just point it in the right direction and give it a slap every now and again.

  12. They're both athletes. The "midget on top", pound for pound, is the toughest son of a ***** you'll ever come across.
