  1. in everything other then eventing, its a not pro.  it depends on what it is exactly to tell you what is and isn't considered pro..

in eventing its a level, in novice the jumps are not higher then 2'11 and theres a certain dressage test you do..

  2. beginner

  3. There are two sections to each class, open and novice.

The novice section is often listed:

0 - 3 wins - meaning if you have won a novice class 3 times you can't go in this class.

0 - 5 wins - meaning as above, if you have five novice wins you can't enter this class.

After winning normally 5 novice classes you then qualify to compete in open classes.

Now just to confuse you, if you think you have a great horse, but haven't won lots of novice classes, you can then compete in a novice section and then open class as well.

Once your horse is open you can't go back to competing novice - even if the rider changes.

As per the number of wins that are allowed in novice classes before becoming open, this changes from country to country and often depends if it is a small show or larger event etc. It should be clearly listed in the catelogue, or you are able to ask the show secretary - it is their job to answer these sort of questions.

Then at a show they have Novice Champion and Reserve (normally the young up and coming stock)

And Open Champion and Reserve (often/but not always - slightly older stock, with great balanced established movement and better developed mature frame).

Best of luck with the showing :)

  4. You don't sound stupid, you just sound like a novice!  Novice means fairly new at something, in this case, riding.

  5. u sound just like a novice!! lol its a beginner

  6. Novice means beginner.  Usually, they have requirements about who can be a novice.  Whether in AQHA where you can't have won so many points or in other organizations you couldn't have won a blue ribbon.  Usually these are the best classes to start out in.

By the way - no question is stupid - we all started somewhere and the only way you're going to get ahead is by asking!

  7. BEGINNER. YOU'RE NOT STUPID, YOU'RE A NOVICE AT THIS EQUINE STUFF. ENTER NOVICE AT PET SHOWS, FOR NOW.

  8. Novice means beginner and you'll see them in horses-4-sale results, horseshows ect.

Novice = Beginner, learner, trainee, ect

    Hope that helps you

  9. I show Novice Amateur at Paint breed shows.

First, to be an amateur you can earn NO money whatsoever in training horses, or coaching riders.  Even earning $5 teaching 4-H kids would eliminate me as an amateur.

Then to be a novice amateur you must not only be an amateur, but you must have earned a minimum number of points in any type of breed show.  I believe the maximum in Paint shows in 50 points, once you've earned that you can no longer compete in Novice Amateur but must enter only Amateur or Open type classes.

APHA also have Novice Youth classes with the same criteria - you can have only earned so many points as a youth.
