With the oil prices skyrocketing, in how many years there will be no more planes in the sky ? 10 years ? 20 ? 100 ? or perhaps never since they'll find something else to rule the sky ?

  1. the neat thing about the internal combustion engine is that if you can get vapours to explode it will work and the same holds true for jets.  We have avaiation now and I don't see it going away anytime soon baring a star fleet transporter showing up next week.  There will be a downturn for a while but the gene is out of the bottle and you won't be able to turn it off again.  After 911 avaiation continued in the rest of the world it only stopped here in North America for a couple of days

  2. I'd say, around August 5, 2008.

just kiddin, it only seems that way.

at the moment, competition keeps airlines from passing on more than 30% to 40% of fuel price increases on to customers.

but as all the carriers cut capacity and ground aircraft, the ability to raise fares to a level that will sustain the industry is bound to happen.

there were a few days, a few years ago when there were no planes in the sky, over the U.S.(apart from military).  hope to never see that happen again.

  3. I will never happen.

We are simply headed toward a time where flying will be more expensive (much like it was up until about 15 years ago) and only the more affluent will be able to afford it.

In my opinion this is nothing more than a market correction resulting from years of airline price wars.  It became so cheap to fly that everyone did it, and economies of scale resulted making airlines profitable again, but only if they could keep their airplanes full.

In the future, we will see higher ticket prices, lowered capacity, and far fewer rednecks in sleeveless t-shirts ordering Bud Lights in coach.

  4. So long planes keep on flying, they will keep on diving. Cannot say how many years, but perhaps still for a long long time to come.

  5. They compete very effectively with cars, so they'll be round as long as there are cars.

  6. It will never happen.

Those planes might only be filled with the elite rich and business people though, like it was during the early years of the aviation boom.  (That's when it was way too expensive for ordinary folks too.)

I have a private pilot's license.  but I haven't flown in about 2 years now.  The AOPA is getting desperate for young people to get interested in flying... the problem is, none can afford it any more.  (It will now cost 2 to 3 times what I paid just 3 years ago!!!)  The primary reason I stopped:  too expensive (not just the fuel either... planes are much more expensive to buy/own than ever before too).

Makes you wonder.  The ultra rich are running Congress and the rest of government, and they have done short sighted policies based on the fanatic religion of manmade global warming.  But maybe there's a side benefit to the whole thing that they've been planning all along...

They don't like us peons in their circles, and making things incredibly expensive sure keeps more of us at home and away from their golf courses, vacation spots, cruise ships, airplanes, etc.

The robber barons are back in business, enjoying their Gilded Age again.

  7. Nope as oil increase, Aircraft manufacturers like Airbus and Boeing are making more fuel efficient planes like the 787 and A350, and i don't think oil prices would ever get to the point where planes cannot get any more efficient.
