In installintg hardwood floors can we just put it on top of vinyl?

For the carpet side, can we just remove the carpet and put another subfloor to make it level with the vinyl flooring? It is easier for us that way since there is only a little portion of carpet flooring.

yes, we did the exact thing with oursa year and half ago.. just make sure that where the room with the carpet meets the room with the vinyl are absolutley level and smooth. Also make sure that you still use the paper in between the subfloor/vinyl and the new wood floor.
