It was mentioned on QI once but I can't remember what they said it was called.

Examples:

Abso-bloody-lutely

Fan-f***ing-tastic

In-bloody-credible

Thanks

  1. Ignor the above. I don't know what it is called but I'm pretty sure it does have a name. I will try and get back when I have found out.

  2. i don't think its called anything. just stuff people make up

  3. Others got there before me, but to be a bit more specific (if a bit pedantic) when you insert a word between the syllables of another word like abso-bloody-lutely it is called a dystmesis.

  4. It is apparently called tmesis or tumbarumba.

  5. Tmesis.

  6. Don't know, but concatenating two words to make a new one as Lewis Carrol did in his Jaberwocky poem is known as making 'portmanteau' words, could that be it?
