  1. a crime

  2. In general, any crime for which the punishment is imprisonment in state prison and/or a fine of more than $1000.

    CAlif Deputy

  3. Lets start with an infraction. An infraction will get you a fine, no jail. Traffic tickets would be an example.

A misdemeanor means fine and or up to one year in County Jail.

A felony means, fine, jail and or state prison.

So a crime is defined by the punishment.

Of course a felony would be more serious than an infraction or misdemeanor.
