In-laws adopted a boy and now the family is split?

Question

My husbands parents raised 6 children. They have 14 grandchildren and don't pay any attention to any of them. They abused the kids growing up and were horrible parents. They decided to adopt a child and the family is now split becasue some of the siblings took them to court to try to prove they would be unsuitable parents. I don't know how but they got to adopt this child.

They are in their late 50's, in horrible health, no retirement plan, no savings...

HOW DID THEY GET TO ADOPT THIS CHILD? I don't understand.

Ahh, adoption - the wonderful world of "doing what is best for the child".

How did they get to adopt this child?  If the child is an infant, they paid an adoption agency or an adoption lawyer lots of $$$.  If they adopted from foster care, they passed a so-called "home study" and the agency "dumped" the child to get him/her off the rolls to save $$$.  If they are fostering, they are getting $$$ to provide a roof over the child's head.  (Not knocking all foster parents here - most ARE saints IMHO.  Sadly, there are a handful of bad ones whose cases are highly publicized.)

My hearts breaks for this child.  I admire you tremendously for helping this poor lost child.  Please keep fighting.

Did they really adopt the child, or is this a foster situation?

In any event...all you can do is make sure they treat the boy well, AND do NOT let this child EVER feel responsible for the family rift.

i will bet they have good reputation as far as mney and stuff goes. that is how. i know that they worked hard and that is why they got the kid. yes, its sad and its very sad the kids of theirs tried to not let it happen. sometmes they do let things go too far and they really dont' know this they think you kids are horrible i bet. so its hard to say how the kid will react but good luck to the new one.

omg!! i think you need to go higher up in the authority department!!  the state probably thinks they are ok because the siblings didn't complain back then.. the question is why would they adopt a child when all their children are grown? i guess it will be up to you to watch out for this child to see if he is getting abused,  and if so report it .. good luck!!
