In-laws host baby shower with no games?

Question

My mom in law and sis in law (the one I dont really get along with) surprisingly wants and will host a baby shower for me and I thanked them and asked to be part of it. I have no family here. Mom in law emailed me and told me that they decided the day and they wil give each guests a little gift to take home, so there won't be any games for winning prizes. It will be just lunch, open presents, that's it. This is not what I had in my mind, I love entertaining & games & themes. What can I do? It is my first baby shower.....

I've been to several showers without games.  If there are a lot of guests that know each other, they spend a lot of time visiting in between oohing and ahhing. In fact, the last baby shower I went to, my Mom came along. Turns out she had never attended a baby shower that had games.

Just because you have games doesn't mean you have to have prizes, you can have simple no win games that are just fun. If you don't have a name for your baby you can suggest a name the baby game. You can also do a give the mom advice thing where each guest must write some advice for you and then as you open the gift from them they have to read that advice. That would be a good compromise of non game games :) plus it never hurts to get some good advice or name suggestions!

No offense, but I think you should just be grateful they are throwing you a shower.  Who cares if its not exactly what you have in mind.  Whats important is that you are having a shower.  Unless you want to throw yourself a shower and run the entire thing yourself, I think you should just go with the flow.

since you cant drink and you cant hear, I can understand why you would feel very left out at your own baby shower where every one was drinking and talking. Just tell them that part. They should understand. ALso the no win games that the other answer suggested is a good idea. That way you can tell your mom and sis in law that they dont have to shell out an arm and a leg for prizes because you are already so grateful for the shower in the first place but this way you could get a little more involved with it.
