In lighting systems what does a mod do?

I see it connected to the ballast and lampholders but its function is a mystery.please help!

  1. Some older discharge systems had a capacitor to help start the current

    flow.

    I've heard it called a starter, but not a 'mod'.


  2. Its to help the correction factor. The correction factor needs to be as close to unity as possible to safe you energy but it is impossible to get it to = 0 (Unity = 0) if you can get the unity to equal 0 you will become a millionaire over night. If you remove the module would mean u use more energy basically
