  1. It's the beginning of your postcode for example if you live in East London your postcode will start with E and the numbers are corresponding to the area you live in with the section.  E6 is the town West Ham in London.

If you are unsure type in E6 or whatever in to google maps and it will tell you what town it is in.

  2. They are postcodes.  The "E" means "East" as in East London.  "W" is West, "N" North.... "WC" West Central, "SE" South East and so on.....  These are all in London, although all parts of Britain have their own postcodes.

The numbers are just designating the areas, so EC2 is a different area to EC4... its to help the post office out!!!  Like zip codes?

If by "ends" you mean East End and West End, they are just description of parts of London.  The "East End" is East London, although confusingly, the West End is the West side of Central London, not the whole of West London.  There isn't a "North End" and Southend is not South London, but a seaside town in Essex.  Thoroughly confused now?!! lol

  3. It's where the band East 17 got their name from.

All boys from Walthamstow - Walthamstow postcodes all begin E17

  4. if you go to this web page

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_post...

and scroll down you'll see a map of London with all the postal districts on it ... it's just a way of dividing London up into smaller bits by giving them numbers which was originally done by the Post Office
