  3. DO NOT do anything with the mains. Get an electrician or there is a high chance of getting electrocuted.

    Also, You didn't say where you are from, so there is no way to give you a definite answer. The colours are not universal. In Australia, Red is active and Black is neutral.

  4. Both are line voltage wires in a residential use.  Call a qualified professional electrician to do the work since you need this help.

  5. BOTH! In 240V system both the red and black are live. Then you should have a white (neutral) wire when connected to either the red or black gives you120V. Green is earthed.

    If you don't know what your doing call an electrician before someone on here gets you killed!

  6. In electricity green is ground white is neutral but any other could be hot red or black do not be a cowboy shut off the power source whenever possible!!!

  7. theRED wire is the live wire. but the colours were changed some years ago to ,

    brown = live

    blue    = negative

    green/yellow =earth.
