In many board games that are ended in a tie, it's called a cat's game. Why?

And in tennis, a tie is called love...Is that because the love between the two opponents is so strong that neither one can stand to beat the other???

  2. I believe it comes from a tie being called "scratch game."  And later it developed into "cat scratch" and then just dropped to "cat."

    Another theory is that in Tic Tac Toe a tie game is called Cat because it is Tac spelled backwards, which is the middle grounded word.

    In tennis, Love is Zero.

  3. Love does NOT mean a tie in Tennis.  "Love" means zero points -- "40-0" would be said aloud as "forty love".
