In michugan can a person operate a boat/jet ski with just a drivers license?

do you have to have a boaters license to operate a boat or is just a driver's license okay?

pwc aka a jet ski in pa u have to be 16 and over and have a lincese to drive it and in pa u have to have a drivers lincese to drive any boat over 25hp  go to yahoo search bar and type ma boating laws and in pa i fount a boaters hand book u can take the lincese there for like 30 dollars but thats in pa

Who May Operate a Boat

Those less than 12 years of age:

May operate a boat powered by a motor of no more than 6 horsepower (hp) legally without restrictions.

May operate a boat powered by a motor of more than 6 hp but no more than 35 hp legally only if they are directly supervised on board by a person at least 16 years of age.

May not operate a boat powered by a motor of more than 35 hp legally under any conditions.

Those 12 to 15 years of age:

May operate a boat powered by a motor of no more than 6 hp legally without restrictions.

May operate a boat powered by a motor of more than 6 hp legally only if they:

Have passed a boating safety course approved by the Department of Natural Resources and have on board their boating safety certificate or ...

Are accompanied on board by a person at least 16 years of age.

Those 16 years of age or older may operate any boat on the waters of Michigan. Note: See "Who May Operate a Personal Watercraft (PWC)" below.

All information on who can operate a boat or PWC and the requirements for it should be contained in this web link.  Read EVERY part carefully and know it 100%.  Not knowing about a boating law or regulation is not a defense against a ticket.

Laws regarding PWC's tend to be more strict, so if you intend on riding one, you will most likely have to study and pass all boat safety education requirements set by them.

Specifically for operating a PWC in Michigan, if you are born after December 31st, 1978, then you must the pass the boater safety course for Michigan.
