In middle school and high school, why do some teachers look mean and intimidating?

I'm talking about teachers who almost never have a smile on their face. They always have an evil eye type stare towards their students. They give detention to students for the smallest offenses without giving a warning. And, they seem happier when someone fails a test. Have you ever had a teacher like this? Thankfully, I never did.

Well, I never had a teacher that strict but I sure remember some teachers who play favorites or can get angry pretty easily. My 6th grade science teacher hated me. Sometimes he would put me on the spot or talk to me with a lot of discouragement.

well some teachers hate beign with kids that ask questions all the time they want you to figure it out even thought it is like there job to help us out i mean come on how else we going to learn

It's because they fail at life. lol iono maybe they just want to prepare you for the real world. Trust me, most teachers aren't evil b******s even if they don't smile. A lot of them are just doing it to help you.
