  1. Two separate paths.

Officer (OCS or similar training, military academy, ROTC)

Enlisted (simply sign up and make it through the initial processes and boot camp)

    Officers outrank those who enlisted.

There's a link to the full list of ranks, in order.  There are many, so I decided not to list them here.  Also, the Navy has "rates" instead of ranks. They are different titles.

The name says it all, don't listen to him.  An enlisted person is never in command of a base.  If anything, a high ranking enlisted person can work directly with a high ranked officer and give orders of unit policies but cannot make decisions and tell an officer what to do.

  2. An O1 ALWAYS outranks an E9.  Period.  A wise "O" will listen and respect his/her NCOs, but the "O" makes the decision.

Depends on the nation and branch of service:

    US Army/AF

    E1 (Private, Airman Basic)

    E2 (Private, Airman)

E3 (Private First Class, Airman 1st Class)

    E4 (Corpora/Specialist, Senior Airman )

    E5 ( Sergeant, Staff Sergeant)

    E6 (Staff Sergeant, Technical Sergeant)

E7 (Sergeant 1st Class, Master Sergeant)

E8 (Master Sergeant, Senior Master Sergeant)

E9 (Sergeant Major, Chief Master Sergeant)

    O1 2nd Lieutenant

    O2 1st Lieutenant

    O3 Captain

    O4 Major

    O5 Lieutenant Colonel

    O6 Colonel

    O7 Brigadier General

O8 Major General (Originally "Sgt Major General". That's why a Major seems to rank below a Lieutenant.)

    O9 Lieutenant General

    O10 General

O11 General of the Army (only used in wartime)

  3. you will salute anyone who gives you the respect of a salute regardless of rank unless you are at an disadvantage. to do otherwise is just disrespectful

  4. If you're looking at it purely from a military ranking system regardless of services it's ordered as enlisted personal from 1-9, Warrant Officers from WO1-CW5, then officers from 1-10. That would be written as E1, E2, E3,..., O1, O2, O3, etc.

If you want the actual title for the rank it varies by service. Each services has different names for it.

  5. An officer is not always going to out rank an enlisted, such as second Lt or a first Lt h**l even a Capt isnt going to out rank a Chief or Command CMSgt that may have the command of a base.

U do however salute all officers and will not salute an enlisted. But theres a diffrenece between out rank and those placed in charge over you.
