Question:

In more detail about seat belt laws

Ok, I know it is illegal and all to drive without a seatbelt, but I wonder about how clear the law is on seatbelts. For instance, what qualifies for a seatbelt, could it be a piece of ducttape strapped accross you and the seat and that is considered one by law, or do the ones that only go over your lap and not your chest qualify as a seat belt?

You see, I thought it would be cool to have a big church bus, then take out the back seats and replace them with lounge-able seats where you could lay back, and watch something on a tv hanging from the roof of the bus, but would having belts going vertically, rather then horizontally qualify as a seat belt, also, is it legal to have seats that line up against the side walls of the bus, rather then rows like a normal vehical be legal? If anyone knows the specifics on laws, that would be awesome.

  1. Laws vary from state to state, province to province.

It would help to say what jurisdiction you live in.

In Canada, there are no seat belts in buses and probably the same in the USA.  In Canada, it's what the manufacturer put in at the time (that was legal at the time).

  2. ok any passager car truck van tractor traller truck has to have a seat belts ok not with busses gray hound school busses church busses do not require seat belts expect for the driver it self a diver must where there seat belts if you are in a buss so if you get you class B lincence and get a church buss or a school buss and rip out the seats and turn it in to a motor home / camper you can do so Duck tape is not aloud you have to have at least a 3 inch lap band and ant DOT aproval and a sholder harness a proved by DOT and when you get you class B you will know all about it
