8 guys in their upper 20's looking to go on a cruise. Went last year on Carnival Triumph to Western Carribean (from Miami) and had a blast, but were a lot of kids, families, etc. Went at the end of July, looking at either late May or early June. What should we do?

  1. Check out www.vacationstogo.com for good cruise deals.

If you want to avoid the family scene, book a month other than March in the Spring.  But than will also mean less college gals as well.  Avoid mid-June and July.  However, you will be getting into hurricane season if you wait to book too late in the summer.  We got caught between TS Cindy and Hurricane Dennis in 2005.

As for Carnival, they are the best value for cruisers.  As you look at other carriers, you will notice the prices go up.

  2. NCL     norweigen cruise lines ..

pride of hawai  it was great what u want whenever u want it

  3. I would recommend late April, prices still good and kids are still in school.  Anywhere on a cruise line is paradise.  I enjoy princess cruise line.  Affordable yet they treat you like royalty.

  4. Stick with Carnival...that ship has the most folks in their twenties.  I've been on a few different ships, and Carnival wins in my opinion hands down.  But...if you had another choice...I'd go with Norweigian since it has the open seating...and you don't have to get dressed up all the time.

Now that you've been on at least one cruise....if you enjoyed the days at sea or if you're like me, you get enough ship time at night, then take a trip out of San Juan so you go to better islands (in my opinion) and there shouldn't be any days at sea.

Also, since you've done the western Caribbean...at least try something different, like the eastern Caribbean.  I think you'd have fun in St. Martin with the nude beaches...bars on the beach and there's a sailing race you can book (on your own, not through the ship) that has the old retired America's Cup sailing ships that you actually sail yourself.  Everyone gets a "job" to do, from cranking in the lines, steering or just being the bar tender.  It's expensive, but you guys would have a blast if you broke yourself up into two teams to see who would win.  (by the way, I think the dk. blue American boat always wins :)  shuussshhhh...don't tell your friends...lol

I'd also buy your own snorkel gear here, get off the ship and head to a taxi.  Ask the taxi guy to bring you to a "secluded beach"  a "good snorkeling beach"  a "beach with a bar"....and then give him a time to pick you up.  He'll be more then happy to oblige.

Also by going in May and June you shouldn't find too many families like you did the end of July.

I also find some great travel deals through this web site:

    www.iBtraveling.com

Well...those are my thoughts...hope they help.

    Enjoy!

  5. The months of April to Septembers is the worst season to visit the Caribbean because of the hurricane season.  Most ships reposition to Alaska (more retired people), Europe, or Hawaii.   Some ports might even be cancelled.

Best season to visit the Western Caribbean would be from November to March. For your age, stick with Royal Carribean, Carnival, Princess, or NCL.

Please avoid Holland America Line if you're in your 20s.  You will find that most of the passengers are over 60.  Though it's a five star ship, you will find yourself amongst elderly people.

  6. Go to websites like cruisecritic or cruisemates and look around.

Cruisemates is probably the one you want (the singles cruises).  There will still probably be family and kids if you go with Carnival because there is something for everyone.

I am going with Carnival again in March, it doesn't really bother me, the kids are usually hidden with Camp Carnival, and they certainly can't go into the bars!

  7. Summer cruising is for family with kids.  The best time for you would be earlier in May as some states have school until first week of June.  Depending on where you want to leave from.  I know the east & west coast get out of school later than the southern states who get out the first part of May.  If you want a lot of night life on a cruise you'll have to stick with the big ships.  The more expensive ones don't have a lot of kids on them, but they are too stuffy, upscale and dull.

The only althernative is if you can find a singles cruise which isn't  available often or during those months.  You could go on a Club Med or Windjammer cruise, but its more for sailing not for partying until you get into port.
