  1. As far as I know, there are only two ways that a cockroach could hurt a person.  First, they could transfer harmful microbes to that person.  Or, second, some humans are allergic to a protein that they carry.  As for the first, the transfer of microbes is usually only a problem in hospitals.  There are probably no harmful microbes around that you really have to worry about.  And, second, your baby is probably not allergic.

Of course, protecting our children is important, so it would be a good idea to do the pest-control thing.  Have it done professionally and be sure to tell them that you have a baby in the apartment--those chemicals are far more dangerous to your baby than a few roaches!

Afterwords look up things to do around the house to help prevent the return of cockroaches.  They are very annoying.  (Incidentally, since I've been living in Japan I've learned that the best way to kill cockroaches is to have centipedes.  But centipedes are poisonous, especially the Japanese ones!)

  2. Yes cockroaches can harm your baby. They bring in all types of bacteria and dirt with them. They may even bite your baby or crawl on he/she. I would most likely get the h**l out of there and quick, but I do understand that you might be locked in a lease. You might try to purchase Boric Acid. It works miracles. But you have to put in the nooks and crannies and on top of counters and in the bathroom and all around the apartment. Make sure to clean up any grease or dirt in the kitchen with a bleach/water mix.

Do not put the boric acid in the baby's crib or where the baby can get it. Also purchase some spray that will kill the roaches. I used to live in a roach infested place and my apt. was super clean. However, sometimes the people next to you or above or downstairs from you can be very nasty. The roaches come through the walls and they have probably come from there. If you can't do anything else, just pay your rent on time but move in temporarily with a family member.

  3. Cockroaches harbor dieases. They fecal matter could spread infection. Call the apartment manager, tell them to redo pest control because you saw them in the babies crib. Then call the apartments general manager, tell them about the cockroach infestation. Let them know your going to your local health department to report the problem to them because your worried about your babies health.

Make sure to wash all crib bedding! You cant put the baby into the crib until you do that.

  4. The whole building should be fumigated for pests.

You can get a cockroach spray at the supermarket - spray it around your apartment and see if that gets rid of them!

  5. call an exterminater and keep your home clean. roaches come for stray food

  6. I would suggest moving because it is very difficult to get rid of a cockroach infestation. Especially if they are coming from another apartment in the building. Roaches are very dirty and so are their droppings. My old apartment had cockroaches coming from our neighbors apartment. Our landlord had that place fumigated 4 or 5 times and it never worked. We moved as soon as we found out i was pregnant.

  7. Get your baby out of there until someone can get rid of all the roaches.  You are bringing them back by not cleaning good enough!!!  If your a troll,  thanks for the points!!

  8. well you should definately get you & your baby out of the apartment and go stay at your moms house for a couple nights. then call an exterminator and they can probably get rid of them.

  9. try something like this

  10. Check the terms of your lease. Your landlord may be responsible for pest control. If so, you should call and request they do something about the bugs. Even if it is not in the lease, try calling them anyway.

If not, you would have to move to get away from them. They live in the whole building, so anything you do to just your apartment isn't going to get rid of them. If the landlord won't fix it, you probably have to move.

Roaches are dirty. They carry germs and disease. They don't bite or do anything to directly harm your baby, but they are dirty and if your apartment has them, the apartment is going to be dirty, too.

  11. You can spray all you want, but theres no getting rid of them.

Theres a reason why they're so resilient.

Move. Because once you see one, you just know theres hundreds more.

  12. Yes it could harm the baby, my advice is find somewhere else to live ASAP x

  13. Cockroaches are filthy disgusting creatures. You need to get rid of them or move. Go to your apartment complex office and tell them that the place has roaches and you have a baby. They HAVE to get rid of them... This might involve spacing your apartment however (gassing it) and that is VERY bad for baby's. If this is the case you are going to have to go stay with a friend for at LEAST 2 weeks to let the place air out.

I would just move if at all possible. The bug spray you are probably using is also VERY bad for baby, and can stay in a room you sprayed it in for hours after you use it.

I know its probably expensive but you have to start considering just moving the heck outta there... for your child's health.

My son came down with Valley Fever when he was only a month old and we were living in Phoenix AZ. There is no cure to Valley Fever accept to leave the state, because it is a fungus that is in the air in AZ. We uprooted our little family withing a month and we DID have to dig ourselves into a bit of debt, but in the end my son is now happy and healthy. Its all worth it in the end.

    Good luck
