  1. In most states you can only have 4 infants per adult

    check with licencing.

I helped with my friends infant triplets--it's brutal

I taught preschool to 19 month+ it was good fun

  2. There is a lot of things involved in starting a daycare. Some states you have to have a license. You will probably have to get trained in CPR. Are you going to provide the food or have parents pack their childs own lunch?  Provide snacks, mats for them to nap on, activities for them to do. I have never worked in a daycare. But God Bless those who do, they are a godsend to me. Good Luck , hope this helps

  3. First of all licensing regulations in almost all states will not allow you to have more than 4 infants cared for by 1 person

8 by 2.  Personally fewer is better!! 4 is way too much but it is generally allowed.

Hire an extra person if possible

even though it is not required.

Even if you are allowed more DO NOT allow more than 8!!

Infants need as much 1 on 1 plus from my experience you will not be able to physically do it.

I had 4 children in my infant room and it was hard

because they are nearly never on the same schedules.

    2-3 worked much better.

Talk to parents to determine needs

Call your state department of social services and ask about child care regulations

  4. Unless you have at least an A.S. in early childhood education with a concentration in infant toddler you should not even think about opening such a day care.

Running an infant toddler daycare is a tremendous undertaking which should be left to trained experienced professionals.  For the well being of the children...and possibly your sanity...get an education first, then some experience and, if you still want to, then open a day care.

  5. IM a former preschool teacher and here are a few pointers:

-make sure it's LEGAL to operate without a license

-Youre GOING TO NEED an assistant, maybe 2 if you take on 6 infants....I'm pretty sure that in almost every state the limit is 2 to 3 infants per adult

    - You will be emotionally and physically drained...remember...these cuddly little people are COMPLETELY helpless.

-There is a sq footage requirement in all states for amount of children in a center vs size...check w/ local depts ahead of time so you wont be surprised.

-Lastly, you must have all children that are awake ACTIVE, it is illegal to allow a child to lay in a crib or walker (actually those are banned from institution use as are doorway bouncers) for more than a very small period of time...

Finally, GOOD LUCK!!! It is a very rewarding job and a great asset to the community. So best of Luck and get some comfy shoes.lol

  6. ya, that's a good idea, you can help them by doing so,.

  7. Before you do anything else find out what the licensing regulations are in your state. In NY a family day care provider is not allowed to care for more than 2 children under 2, a group provider must have one adult for every 2 children under 2, and a day care center can have only 8 infants in a group with 2 adults. Planning on caring for 6 infants on your own is foolish. There is no way you could give that many babies the nurturing and individual attention they need and it would be impossible to evacuate safely in an emergency.
