  1. Betta fish linger at the top, you could try that.

  2. silver dollars would get beat up by your rainbow and fire mouths would beat up your paradise.  knowing from experience a good fish for top level swimming would be a columbian shark aka black tip shark.  they like to swim around the top of the tank. during the first day it may hide but once it gains dominance over the rainbow shark it will swim freely along the top.  just make sure you buy one that is slightly bigger than your rainbow.

  3. Try some hatchetfish or dwarf gouramis.  Both love the top and are pretty tough fish :)

  4. Get a Firemouth Cichlid they will grow to 6'' and are aggressive, and will stand up to the paradise fish.

  5. Okay, DEFINITELY NOT bettas OR Hatchetfish, Your rainbow will kill hatchetfish. And gouramis don't even hang out at the top of the tank. Both rainbows and paradise are pretty aggressive, and there aren't many fish that are compatible with them that are of the top strata. Many of the more aggressive gouramis, like blue gouramis, moonlight gouramis, and kissing gouramis occasionally like the top. Hemiodus often also swim at the top of the tank, but keep in mind that the paradise fish may act aggressively towards it. A good choice for you to get would also be silver dollar fish, except those are more of the middle strata.
